We seem to be living at a time when chronic stress is the 'norm.' Was it always this
way? Maybe you've heard of "The Caveman Stress Response?"
In prehistoric times, stress was a critical response to immediate threats like
tigers, lions, or other dangers in the environment. When faced with a threat,
our bodies would enter the "flight or fight" mode where we would release stress
hormones like adrenaline and cortisol to either confront the danger or run away
from it. You either got away or were killed but either way, the threat was over.
So then once the threat was gone, the stress response would subside, and
the body would return to a state of calm.
Compare that to today where our stress response is triggered by things like work pressures, financial worries, societal expectations, and family demands. These stressors are often constant and pervasive, unlike the short-lived dangers of the past.
Because of this, our bodies can remain in a prolonged state of stress, leading to chronic stress, burnout and health concerns.
While we can't eliminate all modern stressors, we can learn to manage our stress response more effectively by aligning with a more balanced way of living. I'm here to help you achieve that balance.
